Speaking
Katherine speaks and presents to students from Pre-K through college, and to adults at regional and national conferences (including keynote addresses). Katherine is an author, an educator, and a storyteller, so all presentations include educational components with practical applications, stories, and fun.
Katherine offers a variety of topics and presentations, depending on the age of the audience and interests. For younger children, Katherine focuses on the process of writing and illustrating picture books to describe the creative process and the role of editing. For older children, specific writing tools and techniques are conveyed. And for high school and college students, concrete characteristics of her profession, as well as the artistic and editorial process, are discussed.
Katherine has provided workshops for teachers, including methods for increasing and improving student writing, and ways to integrate drawing across the curriculum to enhance student learning. She has spoken with groups of all ages about her path from educator to writer and illustrator. She also speaks about sustainability, and living a life that respects our connection to and interdependence with nature.
